MEPC71 Side Event: Arctic shipping and heavy fuel oil: a risky business

5 July 2017, 12h45 – 13h15
Main hall (Plenary), ground floor, IMO

Join us this Wednesday, July 5 for a lunchtime event that will discuss risks associated with the use of heavy fuel oil (HFO) in Arctic shipping.

This event is an opportunity to explore the potential impacts of a HFO spill in the Arctic, the challenges of responding in the world’s harshest environment, and the consequences for stakeholders, including coastal indigenous communities.

Find out more about the economic and environmental trade-offs of alternatives to HFO, as well as insights from a shipping industry representative.

MODERATOR: Austin Ahmasuk, Kingikmiu Inuit and Marine Advocate

SPEAKERS:
Andrew Dumbrille: WWF Canada
Bryan Comer PhD: International Council on Clean Transportation ICCT
Eduard Zdor: Aborigen Forum
Maria Bruun Skipper: Danish Shipping

Event organised by members of the Clean Arctic Alliance.
